Over the years publishing ITAM Review, we have covered point-in-time assessments of audit behaviour and vendor tactics. Useful at the time. I thought it was about time we did this on a regular basis.
Introducing the Vendor Pressure Index (VPI)
The index will track what is happening now and how the trends shift quarter by quarter. It covers three areas:
- how vendors are applying pressure,
- audit behaviour,
- and activity around the renewal process.
Much of this behaviour is shrouded by nondisclosure and confidentiality agreements. We do not want to breach those. We want to capture sentiment and your opinion, and share that across the community so others can benefit.
In particular, we want to highlight dubious behaviour so practitioners can sidestep the risk.
The survey takes less than 10 minutes and every verified participant will receive a summary of the results. We ask for your name and email address so that we can verify that submissions are genuine, beyond that everything is published in the aggregate. Your identity will never appear in print.
By participating, you will also receive an invitation to the next quarterly round. The index only works if we are tracking the same community across time.
The vision
- Imagine if buyers of enterprise technology could rank suppliers by VPI index, and build that into their procurement and vendor management cycles.
- Imagine if procurement teams could score “commercial conduct risk” alongside security and ESG.
- What if procurement behaviour unintentionally incentivises aggressive vendor tactics?
